Waiting restriction at school

Rutherglen Reformer - - News -

Waiting restrictions are set to be brought in near St Charles’ Primary amid fears for children’s safety.

South Lanarkshire Council want to impose a waiting and loading order on Harvester Avenue and Wheatsheaf Drive.

Parents have complained about cars flouting road rules near the school and in 2014 a pupil had a lucky escape after being hit by a vehicle.

Gordon Mackay, head of roads and transportation, said: “The proposed waiting restrictions are to deter parents and carers from parking on both sides of Harvester Avenue to dropoff and pick-up children at St Charles Primary, a practice which has a detrimental effect on the safety of school children and road safety at this location generally.

“Temporary waiting restrictions are already in place and this proposal seeks to make the current arrangements permanent.”

Anyone objecting to the plan has until September 2 to make their views known.
