MSP Tomkins visits Rutherglen

Rutherglen Reformer - - News -

Adam Tomkins MSP paid a visit to Rutherglen JobCentre Plus last week to see the work they do in helping people back in to work.

The Conservative spokesperson for communities, social security, the constitution and equalities was in the Royal Burgh last Tuesday, August 9.

He represents the town as part of the Glasgow regional constituency.

His visit came as new powers over social security are set to be devolved to Holyrood.

Speaking about his visit, Mr Tomkins said:“I was delighted to have the opportunity to see the fantastic work which JobCentre Plus do in helping their customers back in to work.

“It is vitally important that, as the Scottish Government take control over a third of existing working age benefits, that the UK Government’s focus on getting people back in to work is retained as it has delivered the lowest level of unemployment for decades.

“The Social Security Consultation is a huge opportunity for those who use the social security system to play a significant role in shaping the Scottish Government’s view on how these powers will be used.”
