A man’s bid to rob a pop­u­lar book­mak­ers in Spring­hall was foiled af­ter staff recog­nised him straight away as a reg­u­lar gam­bler, forc­ing him to make a quick de­par­ture.

The coun­cil’s bin pick-up pol­icy came un­der fierce at­tack in the Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang ar­eas, with one res­i­dent told he wouldn’t have his bin up­lifted while he was away on hol­i­day.
