Queen’s Park boss Gus MacPherson admitted getting the club’s first points on the board was crucial.

In their second game of the League One season Darren Miller’s penalty cancelled out Stephen Stirling’s effort and Josh Watt’s 90th minute goal secured the win for the Spiders on Saturday.

MacPherson said: “It was crucial to get the points. I have been very happy with the way the players have been working.

“It was the best time to score because it doesn’t give the opposition much time to react.

“Certainly, the way we played in the second half, I would say we deserved to win the game and it gives the players a boost.

“In the second half we went 3-4-3, which pushed Stenhousemuir back and gave more space to Woods and Galt and Darren Miller, who came into the game more.“

Queen’s now travel north to face Brechin City and the Spiders gaffer knows it will not be easy for his men.

“From the start of the year they must be one of the in-form sides at that level. It will be a tough game. We had them watched over the past couple of weeks and they are playing with a lot of confidence.” Stenhousemuir v Queen’s Park match report: page 67
