Core cour­ses open­ing up new skills set

Peo­ple are be­ing given an op­por­tu­nity to learn a host of new skills in a pro­gramme be­ing rolled out at lo­ca­tions across Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang.

The Core pro­gramme hosts a se­ries of work­shops dur­ing term time when peo­ple can learn things such as jew­ellery mak­ing, knit­ting and sewing, and take part in cook­ery demon­stra­tions, IT work­shops and pho­tog­ra­phy ses­sions.

Ad­di­tional work­shops cov­er­ing is­sues such as cul­tural aware­ness and holis­tic ther­a­pies are also sched­uled for the au­tumn and will see guest speak­ers cover a range of top­ics.

Staff will also be on hand to sup­port peo­ple look­ing to vol­un­teer and gain new skills for em­ploy­ment.

The core pro­gramme takes place weekly on Wed­nes­days, be­tween 10am and 2pm at Univer­sal Con­nec­tions build­ing, 1 Burn­hill Street, Ruther­glen.

Recom­menc­ing on Septem­ber 7, the pro­gramme also hosts a crèche at the cen­tre, and light snacks and re­fresh­ments will be avail­able. An outreach ver­sion of the Core will also be held monthly in Spring­hall and Cam­bus­lang.

It will be held at Spring­hall Com­mu­nity Cen­tre, 30 Cru­achan Road, Ruther­glen, on the first Thurs­day of the month be­tween 9am and mid­day, and Toll Pitch Pav­il­ion, Hamil­ton Road, Cam­bus­lang, be­tween 6.30pm and 8.30pm ev­ery first Mon­day of the month.
