Blood donor dates

Rutherglen Reformer - - News -

Residents in Rutherglen and the surrounding area can give the gift of life this Christmas by donating blood.

The Scottish Blood Transfusion Service will be back in the area in December.

Residents will be able to give blood at Croftfoot Parish Church on December 1 between 4-7.30pm.

Then on December 21 they will be at the Cambuslang Institute between 2-3.45pm and 5.15-7.30pm.

However, residents can donate at any number of outreach services over the next few months or at the Glasgow Blood Donor Centre in Nelson Mandela Place.

In Scotland stocks of some blood types are very low with under a week’s worth held at any given time.

There is only five days’worth of O- and six days of O+.

Blood demand is unpredictable and even differs with each blood type.

For example, O- blood can be given to patients with all blood types.

AB+ can only be given to patients with AB+.

To be ready to help patients in all Scottish hospitals, whenever they need it, the service aims to stock six days’worth of each blood type at all times.
