A consortium of local businessmen launched a last ditch bid to bring Clyde back to Shawfield and save the stadium from the developer’s bulldozers.

A £7.5 million plan to totally refurbish Whitlawburn was given the backing of the South East Area Management Committee.

Planning permission was granted for a new £2 million private housing development on a derelict site on Cathcart Road.

Plans for a major housing initiative on Rutherglen’s King Street to help the elderly and handicapped integrate fully into the community were launched by Rutherglen Housing Association.

Rutherglen was set to benefit from £7 million thanks to a loophole in a special agreement between Glasgow District Council and the banks.
