As­sault wit­nesses sought

Po­lice are still hunt­ing a youth who as­saulted a 64- year- old man in Ruther­glen in the early hours of Tues­day morn­ing, Au­gust 23.

The at­tack hap­pened at around 4am on West­ern Av­enue in the Burn­hill area of Ruther­glen.

The vic­tim ap­proached a gang of youths who were caus­ing a dis­tur­bance on the street. One of the group then as­saulted him.

The in­jured man at­tended the Queen El­iz­a­beth Univer­sity Hospi­tal where he was treated for a fa­cial in­jury then later re­leased.

The sus­pect is de­scribed as white, 16-20 years of age, 5ft 8ins in height and of slim build with short brown hair. He was wearing a light- coloured top.

De­tec­tive Con­sta­ble Leane Holmes is ap­peal­ing for in­for­ma­tion.

She said: “This was a to­tally un­pro­voked at­tack on this man, and I would urge any­one who wit­nessed the at­tack, or has in­for­ma­tion on the young man re­spon­si­ble to con­tact us as a mat­ter of ur­gency.

“En­quiries have been car­ried out in the lo­cal area, and of­fi­cers are study­ing CCTV footage to iden­tify the sus­pect and I would ask any­one with in­for­ma­tion that may as­sist our in­ves­ti­ga­tion to con­tact us through 101.
