Alice Through the Looking Glass (PG)
This unnecessary sequel suffers from the same issued that dragged down its predecessor.
Mia Wasikowska remains an endearing, plucky Alice and the addition of Sacha Baron Cohen proves to be a masterstroke.
But investment in the emotion and beat-the-clock urgency of the central storyline is nearly completely lost by a deeply grating turn from Johnny Depp.
His bizarre, partly Scottishsounding Mad Hatter was one of the original’s weakest links and the character is even more annoying this time as his screen time increases.
Most of the computer-based visuals make for an assault on the eyes and it all results in a fun but instantly forgettable return to Wonderland.
