Rutherglen Reformer

Hunting war criminals

-

Rutherglen Rotary Club welcomed a special guest to their weekly meeting to talk about topics of war crimes and national conflict.

Vinny Lunny spoke of his time as a prosecutor in the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.

Although covering serious topics, he began with a reference to the precursor to his career when he was a Rotary ambassadorial scholar to Vancouver 40 years ago.

His talk on the prosecution of war criminals was bracketed by humorous tales from his career in the procurator fiscal service, including a spell at Rutherglen district court, and the Crown Office in Edinburgh.

He has also spent time as the first compliance officer within Scottish football, responsible for enforcing disciplinary rules. The club hope Vinny will return at some point to enlighten them on the subject.

Barry Toshner, also with experience in the legal profession, gave a heartfelt vote of thanks on behalf of the club, who all applauded Vinny for his extremely enlightening talk.

Afterwards he chatted with members and answered their questions on the topic.
