Rutherglen and Cambuslang husbands and wives were among 130 couples who celebrated their golden wedding anniversaries with the provosts of South and North Lanarkshire.

The annual Lanarkshire Golden Wedding reception took place in the banqueting hall of the South Lanarkshire Council headquarters building in Hamilton and saw so many couples applying to attend that the event was split over two days.

The Lanarkshire Golden Wedding reception was launched to mark the Queen and Prince Philip’s 50th anniversary and the two Lanarkshire local authorities take turns at hosting it.

P rov o s t o f S ou t h Lanarkshire Eileen Logan said; “I was delighted to welcome all our couples from across Lanarkshire to this year’s receptions in Hamilton.

“I very much enjoyed chatting to them and hearing their stories of the last 50 years and more.

“Judging by the dancing and comments I heard when it was time to head for home, they clearly had a lovely time.

“On behalf of the two councils I would like to say thank you to the couples and everyone involved in hosting the events for making them such a success.”
