De­lays ex­pected dur­ing M74 work

Mo­torists in Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang are be­ing warned to ex­pect“sig­nif­i­cant de­lays” on the M 74 next month.

Trans­port Scot­land are warn­ing driv­ers ahead of the road be­ing closed in both di­rec­tions between junc­tion four Maryville and junc­tion five Raith between 8pm on Fri­day, Novem­ber 18 and 6am on Mon­day, Novem­ber 21.

The clo­sure is part of the M 8 M 73 M74 Mo­tor­way Im­prove­ments Project and re­lates to the de­mo­li­tion of Both­well­park Road Bridge.

Rail users are also be­ing warned to ex­pect busier ser­vices on the Ar­gyle Line through Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang.

Graeme Reid, Trans­port Scot­land project man­ager forth eM 8 M 73 M 74 Mo­tor­way Im­prove­ments Project, said: “This is the most sig­nif­i­cant road clo­sure we have im­ple­mented as part of the works and we are an­tic­i­pat­ing ma­jor de­lays on all ap­proaches, the sur­round­ing roads and the main di­ver­sion route.

“We are ad­vis­ing road users to plan their jour­ney, avoid the area and sur­round­ing lo­cal roads, and if pos­si­ble, to use al­ter­na­tive modes of trans­port for the week­end.”
