Duo face gift theft charges

A man and woman will stand trial for the al­leged theft of Christ­mas presents from cars in Cam­bus­lang last month.

John Mills, 56, and Jade Bruen, 27, de­nied the charges when they ap­peared at Glas­gow Sheriff Court on Mon­day, Jan­uary 9.

They were or­dered to re­turn for trial on May 26.

Mills, of Langcroft Drive in Cam­bus­lang, and Bruen, of Kirk­con­nel Drive in Ruther­glen, were also charged with pos­ses­sion of a class A drug with in­tent to sup­ply.

The pair have been charged with thefts from six ve­hi­cles on De­cem­ber 11 and 12.

It is al­leged they broke into three cars on Bruce Av­enue, two cars on Wal­lace Wynd and one ve­hi­cle on Scal­loway Road.

Among the items stolen were hair straight­en­ers, CDs, clothes, makeup bags, a bracelet and a yoga mat as well as a “quan­tity of Christ­mas presents”.

Most of the items have been re­cov­ered.

It is also al­leged the pair were found with 5.3 grams of heroin at Mills’ home.

Both were re­leased on bail. Mills had a cur­few im­posed on him by the court and will not be able to leave his home be­tween the hours of 7pm and 7am.

They are due back in court on April 27 for an in­ter­me­di­ate diet ahead of their trial.
