TRIBUTES PAID TO STAIRWAY VICTIM
Residents’ shock as neighbour Jeremy is found dead in a flat after being ‘pushed down flight of stairs and then stamped on’
Friends have paid tribute to a Cambuslang man who was allegedly murdered after he was pushed down the stairs in a block of flats and stamped upon.
The body of Jeremy Paradine, 45, was found at a flat in Kyle Court, Cambuslang, at around 2am on Saturday, January 14.
Thirty-nine-year-old Ralph Goldie is charged with his murder and is accused of killing the man by pushing him down stairs and stamping or jumping on him.
He is also charged with assaulting Martin McQueenie, 49, to his severe injury and danger of life.
Jeremy, of Bute Tower, Whitlawburn, was described as a “kind- hearted, loving and caring man,” by family friend Gillian Friel.
She added: “He was loved by so many people and will be sadly missed. He has been taken too soon.”
His neighbours described him as a “nice man” who was always friendly when he passed by them in the hallway.
Billy Goodwin, 67, who had known Jeremy for more than 20 years, said: “I’m very shocked to hear he’s gone.
“I didn’t know him too well but he was a good neighbour and he would
always say hello to you. He was a handyman, a labourer.
“I’ve known Jeremy for 20 years, we’d go for a drink down the pub. He was a really nice man. I’m so sad to hear he has died. I knew he lived with his wife.”
Another neighbour who stayed in Jeremy’s block said she was also shocked to hear of his death. She added:“It’s sad that this has happened.”
Goldie made no plea or declaration when he appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday and was remanded in custody. He is due to appear again next week.
Residents at Kyle Court spoke of their shock when they heard about the incident.
But Marie Bannerman, 82, said: “It’s a horrible place to live. It’s all the young men that are let in.
“I’ve lived here for 40 years and it’s never been this bad. It got worse four or five years ago.
She added: ”I didn’t hear anything but three CID officers were around this floor .”
