Art at­tack at club’s paint­ing ses­sion

Burn­side Au­tumn Club will en­joy a paint­ing ses­sion at their meet­ing next week.

Charles Clark will at­tend on Wed­nes­day, Fe­bru­ary 1 to show mem­bers his ar­tisitic skills. The week af­ter, Fe­bru­ary 8, Craig Al­lardice will hold a keep fit ses­sion.

Those at­tend­ing to­day’s meet will en­joy a talk from Calder­wood head teacher Lisa Quinn.

The club is cur­rently on the look­out for more mem­bers. They meet ev­ery Wed­nes­day from Oc­to­ber to March in Burn­side Church hall from 2pm.

Set up 30 years ago by Burn­side Community Coun­cil, the Au­tumn Club aims to tackle lone­li­ness and iso­la­tion in the re­tired community, es­pe­cially dur­ing the win­ter.

Or­gan­ised by a com­mit­tee, meet­ings in­clude talks from guest speak­ers and mu­si­cal and comic en­ter­tain­ment. Num­bers at­tend­ing re­main strong but they are de­creas­ing and the com­mit­tee are get­ting older.

Mal­colm Pig­got, who helps run the club, said: “There is a grow­ing need to pro­vide ac­ces­si­ble and reg­u­lar events in Oc­to­ber to March.”
