Road claim is just wrong

Rutherglen Reformer - - Reformer View -

Dear editor

I refer to the article in last week’s Reformer (January 18) regarding a further delay in the completion of the Cathkin Relief Road.

Whilst I’m not surprised by this announcement, I find it quite astonishing that the head of roads and transportation has stated: “The project is progressing well and is under budget by approximately £3 million.”

Firstly the project cannot be progressing well, if what was programmed to take seven months, is taking at least 11 months.

Secondly if a project programme is extended by almost 50 per cent and is being reported to be £3 million (14 per cent) under budget, then some serious questions have to be asked about the original budget and how well the City Deal money has been spent.
