Church leaders meet MSP Clare
Rutherglen United Reformed Church continued their Meet the MSP series recently by welcoming Clare Haughey MSP to the church.
Rev John Sanderson, minister of Rutherglen URC, and Rev David Pickering, moderator of the National Synod of Scotland of the URC, invited Clare to meet with them in the URC’s Rutherglen church so that they could introduce themselves to her and discuss both her role as a constituency MSP and a number of issues that were of concern to them.
The conversation covered a diverse range of topics including homelessness, taxation, the NHS and road signage, as each shared something of their vision for Scotland.
Clare Haughey said: “It was fantastic to meet the church leaders and hear about the concerns of the local members of the United Reformed Church.
“Rutherglen has strong faith communities, and meeting Rev Sanderson and Rev Pickering from the URC was an opportunity to hear the concerns of both the local church and of the Moderator of the URC in Scotland”
John Sanderson expressed both his, and David’s, appreciation that Clare had met with them.
He added: “It’s always good to meet people face to face.
“You not only get to know them as a person but you also get a valuable insight into the things they are passionate about within our society.
“Hopefully having made this initial link we can now build on that as the church seeks to play its part in shaping the future of this wonderfully diverse and socially compassionate nation.”
The Meet Your MSP initiative, which was created by the Scottish Parliamentary churches office, seeks to build links between the congregations and elected members of the Scottish Parliament.
Good to talk Clare Haughey MSP with Rev. John Sanderson and
