Kirkhill man Craig in squad to face US

Kirkhill golfer Craig Ross has been se­lected for the ini­tial 19-man squad for the Great Bri­tain and Ire­land Walker Cup team to face the United States.

The 23-year-old Cam­bus­lang man could travel to the US for the 46th Walker Cup on Septem­ber 9 and 10 at Los An­ge­les Coun­try Club.

Great Bri­tain and Ire­land will bid to re­tain the his­toric tro­phy af­ter a record 16½ - 9½ vic­tory over the USA in 2015.

Craig will join fel­low Scots Robert MacIn­tyre, Craig Howie, Sandy Scott, Barry Hume and Con­nor Syme in the squad.

The Kirkhill mem­ber is cur­rently in South Africa for pro­fes­sional and am­a­teur events fol­low­ing his two rounds on the Euro­pean Tour last week.

Craig played be­hind world No.2 Rory McIlroy in the BMW SA Open in the first tour event of the year.

Walker Cup cap­tain Craig Wat­son said:“We have iden­ti­fied a strong group of play­ers who are all in con­tention for a place on the team and we will be mon­i­tor­ing their per­for­mance and re­sults over the com­ing sea­son.”
