New members please at Rutherglen

Summer arrived early for residents in Rutherglen and Cambuslang at the weekend.

And it proved timely with a number of events going on across the local area.

Among them was Rutherglen Lawn Tennis Club’s popular open weekend.

Residents were invited along to try out tennis for themselves and hundreds took up the invitation.

Club president Gareth Ellor said: “Overall, it was a massive success. It has further increased our profile across the community and brought in a good few new members which is fantastic given our imminent expansion into the Burnside Courts.

“It also allowed us to showcase our fantastic coaching programme which has attracted a number of new juniors already.

“A huge thank you to all our amazing volunteers who worked so hard to put on another amazing event.

“It’s events like this and our tireless work to promote tennis within the community that were recognised with our recent Tennis Scotland club and coach of the year awards.”

We will have more pictures from the event in next week’s paper.
