McColl eyes revenge mission

-

Cambuslang Rangers gaffer Paul McColl admits he will have revenge on his mind when his side travel to Wishaw in the Central League Cup this weekend.

Lang lost 2-1at home to Wishaw in the league two weeks ago and McColl is keen to see his side come out on top this time.

He said: “I thought we were unfortunate against them.

“Apart from a couple of defensive lapses which cost us they never had a shot on goal.

“I’m sure we can turn that around on Saturday but Wishaw have a good team and they will probably have something to say on that.

“They are still there or thereabouts in the league. You can’t rule them out, they are only eight points behind.”

While McColl will be eager to put a decent cup run together, the league remains his priority and he was delighted to see his team get back to winning ways with a 4-0 victory over Vale of Clyde on Saturday.

The win ensures Lang will stay top of the league at least for another week when they are on cup duty.

McColl said: “It was a good win for us and to get four goals was good because it could yet come down to goal difference.

“We’ve actually played better and the park was a bit bobbly but once we got the hang of it we got a few goals.

“It was good to see John Gemmell get his first goal and it’s always nice when your strikers score.

“Vale of Clyde worked hard but if I’m being honest it could have been more.

“We were under a wee bit of pressure to win.”

The win also helped Lang open up a gap on second place St Roch’s and third place Larkhall who played out a 1-1 draw.

But McColl reckons he would rather have seen a winner in that game: “I’d have preferred one of them to drop three points.

“I think it would have been better for us if one of them hadn’t picked up anything.

“But we just need to keep winning and look after ourselves. It’s up to everyone else to knock us off the top.”
