CONSERVATIVE

Rutherglen Reformer - - Election Special -

When I was at West Coats Primary I would go to Cambuslang Main Street at lunchtime and head straight to Russo’s for fritters then Botterils or Lesley’s Chemist for some pick and mix. A weekend treat would be to go to the video shop then maybe get some ice cream from the Station Cafe. Most of these places don’t exist any more and we need to get them back.

Cambuslang doesn’t have the Main Street it used to but that’s not to say that it can’t have this again. It’s up to the council to make sure that the Main Street gets the attention that it deserves. Clearly there is the demand. Parking and the infrastructure need to be scrutinised.

The Main Street saw development over 15 years ago but nothing since. Why has one part of the Main Street seen little growth? We need to speak to retailers and find out what incentives would make them come to Cambuslang. Why are the new retail units not suitable?

If we promote the Main Street then people will take pride once again in the area.
