Rutherglen Reformer - - Election Special -

The regeneration of the Main Street is central to the Scottish Green Party’s efforts in Cambuslang West. We have a five-point plan which we hope will help reverse this decline.

Commission a feasibility study into installing a modular structure to increase the capacity of the Allison Drive car park. Modular car parks can be erected quickly and cost-effectively, increasing the capacity of the current site by 80-100 per cent.

Build bin enclosures to remove one of the most obvious eyesores, the large dumpster-style bins.

Re-evaluate the road layout to find a way that increases available parking while encouraging drivers to stop and use local businesses.

Introduce a customer parking permits scheme. The current 30-minute limit on parking on the Main Street is detrimental to many businesses. We believe these businesses should be able to issue permits to customers, allowing them to park for up to 90 minutes.

Set up an improvement fund to improve and maintain the Main Street.
