Weapon threat to shop keeper

A Ruther­glen shop­keeper was threat­ened with a weapon when two thugs tried to rob his store on Mon­day even­ing.

At around 8.30pm on April 10, the two men en­tered The Happy Ap­proach shop in the town’s Hamilton Road.

Af­ter be­ing threat­ened the ter­ri­fied shop­keeper ran from the shop and man­aged to raise the alarm.

The sus­pects left the shop empty handed and made off in the di­rec­tion of Ward­law Drive.

The shop­keeper was un­in­jured but badly shaken as a re­sult of the in­ci­dent.

Po­lice are now ap­peal­ing for wit­nesses to the at­tack.

The first sus­pect is de­scribed as white, 18- 20 years of age, 5ft 8 inches in height and wear­ing dark coloured cloth­ing with a red scarf.

The sec­ond sus­pect is de­scribed as white, 18- 20 years of age, 6ft in height and of slim build with grey track­suit trousers and checked scarf.

De­tec­tive Con­sta­ble Jim Waddell at Cam­bus­lang Po­lice Of­fice said: “In­quiries have been car­ried out in the lo­cal area and of­fi­cers are check­ing CCTV footage to gather more in­for­ma­tion on this crime and the two men re­spon­si­ble.”
