Trinity High’s John Kelly stars in Scotland victory
A Rutherglen school pupil starred in his nation’s battling victory over Republic of Ireland in the Under 18 Boys Centenary Shield.
Trinity High School’s John Kelly, 16, was the rock in the Scottish School’s defence as they saw out a 1-0 win over the Irish at Renfrew Junior’s New Western Park on Thursday.
The centre-back, who skippers Partick Thistle’s youth academy side, Thistle Weir, joined in the wild celebrations after captain Kyle Banner scored the only goal of the game.
Queen’s Park youngster Calvin McGrory also featured for the Scots who picked up their second three points of the tournament following a win over Wales in March.
John, from Tollcross, also started for Scotland in the matches against overall winners England and Northern Ireland.
