Vot­ers have just a few days to make sure they are reg­is­tered to vote in next month’s lo­cal elec­tions.

Coun­cil elec­tions will take place across Scot­land on Thurs­day, May 4 and vot­ers are be­ing urged to make sure they are reg­is­tered to vote.

The elec­tions pro­vide res­i­dents of Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang the op­por­tu­nity to elect peo­ple who will rep­re­sent them and make key de­ci­sions about their area.

Peo­ple aged 16 by polling day who are Bri­tish, Ir­ish or a qual­i­fy­ing Com­mon­wealth ci­ti­zen are el­i­gi­ble to vote.

Gary Ben­nett, elec­toral reg­is­tra­tion of­fi­cer for La­nark­shire Val­u­a­tion Joint Board, said: “Time is run­ning out to make sure you can take part in the elec­tions this May, so I’d en­cour­age ev­ery­one in South La­nark­shire to take ac­tion now if they’re not al­ready reg­is­tered to vote.”
