Vicky is female champion of Britain
Rutherglen boxer Vicky Glover has been crowned a British female champion.
The 16-year-old fought clever against English number one Maisey-Rose Courtney on Sunday to take the title at the 54kg weight division.
She waited patiently for her opponent advancing and then caught her with crisp back hand rights forcing her head back time and time again.
Vicky boxed to the instruction of the Scotland coaches, who had got the chance to see Maisey-Rose the day before in her semi final, and executed them just right to win by split decision.
It was also her first experience of fighting in three minute rounds of three at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham after gaining a bye to the final.
Her club coach Archie Durie was overwhelmed with how great the former Stonelaw High School pupil performed.
“Vicky had been out of boxing for over a year and came back into the gym with a different attitude,” he said. “She was down the gym during the day regularly putting in the extra work which at the weekend showed how sharp and fit she was.”
