It’s smiles all round at awards news
Young Dentist nomination
A Cambuslang dentist is one of the best in Scotland – and that’s the tooth.
Alyson Lovie is in the running for Young Dentist of the Year at the Scottish Dental Awards, which will be held at the Hilton hotel in Glasgow on May 19.
The 26-year-old works at Complete Dental Care on Western Road and is on a six strong shortlist for the prize.
She told the Reformer that the nomination had come completely out of the blue.
She said: “It was very unexpected, so it was quite a nice surprise to find out I’d been nominated.
“Someone submits a nomination for why you should win the award, so my boss did the hard work - she had to write an essay saying why I was deserving, with evidence and patient’s testimonials and things like that.
“I’m looking forward to the night itself – my parents and my boyfriend are coming along and we’ll make a night of it.”
Alyson has worked at Complete Dental Care since graduating from the University of Glasgow, and has proved popular with patients and her fellow staff.
She added: “I started as part of my vocational training and I just really enjoyed working here right from the start.
“After the vocational training had finished I was lucky enough that I ended up staying on.
“I first got interested in being a dentist when I was about 14.
“I carried it on from there, through school and then to university.”
Alyson is current l y undergoing training in orthodontics.
The clinic’s manager, Samantha Tray, was delighted for Alyson.
She said: “We’re really proud of her.
“Alyson has worked very hard for us and has built a great rapport with patients.”
