Solo showcase puts Anna in the spotlight
Star set to perform
Cambuslang opera singer Anna Heywood is getting ready to show off her talents in Glasgow once more.
The 19-year-old is hosting a concert on May 20 as she looks to enhance her already growing reputation.
Anna put on a concert last year to raise money to attend an opera school in Italy and is hoping this year’s event will be even better.
But she admits there are some nerves. “I was overwhelmed last year by the support of my family and friends, as well as people I didn’t even know,” she says.
“This is just a concert this time. I’m really looking forward to it but I am a little apprehensive about numbers and things like that.
“I will be very exposed and singing a tricky repertoire. I’ll have performers from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to help me. It’s really exciting.
“People have responded really well to me.
“Most of my audience has never heard opera but there will be some musical theatre and jazz as well.”
Last year we reported that Anna starred in a production of ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ in a theatre just outside Paris. It went on to be performed in London.
She also sang in front of an audience of thousands in Wales when supporting the London Welsh Male Voice Choir.
But her focus is on her degree. Anna is studying history and Italian at Glasgow University.
“There has been a lot going on,” she said, “but I’ve also got to focus on my exams. I’m halfway through my degree.”
The show takes place at Renfield St Stephen’s on Glasgow’s Bath Street. Tickets are priced at £10/£15 and can be bought from www.eventbrite. co.uk or on the door.
