Club president Iain McKay, who underwent a heart by- pass procedure less than two weeks ago, did a great job coordinating the proceedings at the opening of Kirkhill Bowling Club greens on Saturday.
He was ably supported by ladies president Jean Kerr, gents vice president John Coubrough and ladies vice president Siobhan Gallagher who all did very well performing their new duties brilliantly.
Rona McKay threw the family’s heirloom silver jack awarded to Iain McKay’s mother many years ago and opened the green with a few brief words to club members.
There were 48 people playing bowls and a large number working and socialising in the club so it was a great turn out for opening day.
The presidents rink with past president John O’Brien substituting for gents club president Iain McKay, won by one shot as tradition demands and Hugh McNulty and Alastair Robertson were the club members in a triples team who won the prize donated by Iain McKay for the highest up team score.
The weather for the eight ends of play was dry but windy and cool.
Players thought the green was running well thanks to the work of Davie Fleming and Ronnie Wilson, especially with Davie having had a cataract eye operation recently.
Members and guests were delighted with the hard work of committee members, volunteers and all helpers who made great efforts to look after everyone.
There were many donations for the raffle organised and run by Jean Kerr with committee members Brian Gallacher and Ronnie Lewis who both had to work very hard to hand out the many prizes. All involved did very well.
The refreshments, food tea and coffee were generously provided and served up by committee members, notably past ladies president Christine MacLeod , Siobhan Gallagher and many playing and social members and were enjoyed by all.
The bar ran smoothly as usual, thanks to the preparation and work of Sam Maxwell, Gerry Ritchie and bar staff involved.
Members were pleased to see the names on the champions and presidents boards thanks to the work of Bill Bell, Ronnie Wilson and all involved with the production and posting of the names.
Members and guests had a great day and are looking forward to the new season at Kirkhill BC.
