Cambuslang teenager and junior judo world champion Neil MacDonald has pulled out of the European Championships due to take place tomorrow, Thursday.
The 19-year-old from Halfway was selected for the competition in Warsaw, Poland, and was set to make his debut on the first day of action.
The Reformer can reveal Neil, who is the junior judoka world and British No.1 at the -60kg weight category, has had to withdraw from the competition due to a ‘personal matter’.
He had spoken about his high hopes for the competition, saying the pressure would have been off due to the fact he was still classed as a junior competitor appearing in senior fights .
Neil is a former Uddingston Grammar pupil who left school three years ago to achieve his dream of taking up judo full-time.
The teenager trains at the British Judo Centre of Excellence in Walsall and won silver at the 2016 Junior European Championships in Malaga since moving from his home in Halfway where his parents still live.
