A Cambuslang family have been overwhelmed with support after hundreds of strangers signed up to a Facebook page to help find their lost dog.

The Williamson’s pet greyhound Lexi ran off after being spooked by noises from Dechmont Firing Range.

A Cambuslang family say they have had their faith in humanity restored after hundreds of strangers got involved with the search for their missing dog.

Lexi the greyhound escaped from her Drumsagard home on March 31 after being spooked by the noise from the nearby Dechmont firing range.

Her owners, Kevin and Lee Williamson, took to social media to try and track her down and they have been overwhelmed with the response.

“The response has been brilliant,” says Kevin, 52.

“The lengths people are going to is amazing. People we have never met and probably will never meet have been out looking for her.

“It’s a case of your faith in humanity being restored.”

Four- year- old Lexi had only been with Kevin and Lee for a few weeks. The couple regularly foster greyhounds but decided to adopt Lexi permanently after she struck up a bond with their son, Adam, seven.

“Adam is dealing with it OK,” says Kevin. “But he’s not really processed it yet. He still thinks she is coming back. “We hope she is too and we are still responding to any leads and sightings.”

After a couple of sightings in Blantyre, the family now believe Lexi could be in the Bellshill area.

Kevin and Lee even cancelled a planned break in Wales to continue the search and have put up a £500 award for her safe return.

Over 750 people have now liked the Help Find Lexi the Greyhound Facebook page as the search continues.

But Kevin said: “She was scared when she ran off so she’s probably in survival mode. We don’t want people to try and catch her because that might make her run off again.

“We know people are doing things with the best intentions but it is best if people just phone us if they have seen her.”

Anyone who spots Lexi can contact Kevin on 07730566763 or Lee on 07730586123.
