Much loved cafe up for sale as owners eye retirement
A much-loved Cambuslang institution has been put up for sale.
McCallum’s Cafe on Main Street was listed for sale on Friday as owners Wullie and Senga McCallum prepare for retirement.
The pair, who opened the business in 1975, will continue to operate as normal until it is sold.
Hundreds of people took to social media over the weekend to wish the couple well, with many offering their fond memories of the cafe. One woman wrote on Facebook:“Good luck Wullie and Senga. McCallum’s is part of Cambuslang history.”
A second customer said:“Many memories in McCallum’s through the years. I will miss Senga and Wullie and Audrey and staff. Enjoy your retirement, you will be missed.”
Mr McCallum told the Reformer: “We are not walking away until the business is sold. That could take three months, six months or a year.
“We will continue to operate as normal until such a time as the business is sold.
“We have been here for 40 years and there have been so many wonderful people who have been with us over the years.
“We have been overwhelmed by the response from customers who have been very loyal to us.”
The business has been listed for sale by Bruce&Co and offers are welcomed in the region of £159,950.
The listing states:“The business is now well established and has built up a reputation for being one of the area’s best places to enjoy a light meal or lunch with friends.”
