Texas scramble setsoff season
The new golf season is now well and truly under way at Cambuslang Golf Club.
The term started with two informal competitions to ease players back into action and get used to playing off the turf again after a few months of winter mats.
The first competition of the season was the Texas scramble, a format always keenly contested.
The winners (56.1) included C Knape, S Lamb, I Waugh and C Carmichael.
Second place (56.4) went to S Philbin, S Mitchell, C Coutts and J Ryrie and third spot (57) was taken by J Brown, S Brown and G Bell.
The second competition of the year was the Oaks, which is a format unique to Cambuslang and always enjoyed by the competitors.
C Cochrane, S Gillespie, A Fordyce and A Leonard came out victorious on 127.
Second place (127) went to A Wilson, B Kerr, D Bell and D Syme and third was secured by C Kerr, N Cloughly, J Bell and A Rae (128).
The first monthly medal of the year was also held on April 29 with some good scoring, particularly in the first division so early in the season.
Division 1: Winner – Martin Reilly (67); second – John Lamb (69); Third – George McKechnie.
Second Division: Winner – W Irvine (70), second – Peter Horne (71), third – Neil Frame (71).
The month of May will see the start of the annual matchplay competitions as well as the Spring Meeting, the May Medal, and the popular Jim Black Memorial Texas Scramble.
