Texas scram­ble set­soff sea­son

The new golf sea­son is now well and truly un­der way at Cam­bus­lang Golf Club.

The term started with two in­for­mal com­pe­ti­tions to ease play­ers back into ac­tion and get used to play­ing off the turf again af­ter a few months of win­ter mats.

The first com­pe­ti­tion of the sea­son was the Texas scram­ble, a for­mat al­ways keenly con­tested.

The win­ners (56.1) in­cluded C Knape, S Lamb, I Waugh and C Carmichael.

Sec­ond place (56.4) went to S Philbin, S Mitchell, C Coutts and J Ryrie and third spot (57) was taken by J Brown, S Brown and G Bell.

The sec­ond com­pe­ti­tion of the year was the Oaks, which is a for­mat unique to Cam­bus­lang and al­ways en­joyed by the com­peti­tors.

C Cochrane, S Gillespie, A Fordyce and A Leonard came out vic­to­ri­ous on 127.

Sec­ond place (127) went to A Wil­son, B Kerr, D Bell and D Syme and third was se­cured by C Kerr, N Cloughly, J Bell and A Rae (128).

The first monthly medal of the year was also held on April 29 with some good scor­ing, par­tic­u­larly in the first divi­sion so early in the sea­son.

Divi­sion 1: Win­ner – Martin Reilly (67); sec­ond – John Lamb (69); Third – Ge­orge McKech­nie.

Sec­ond Divi­sion: Win­ner – W Irvine (70), sec­ond – Peter Horne (71), third – Neil Frame (71).

The month of May will see the start of the an­nual match­play com­pe­ti­tions as well as the Spring Meet­ing, the May Medal, and the pop­u­lar Jim Black Me­mo­rial Texas Scram­ble.
