Cambuslang engulfed in smoke after tyre fire
Thick plumes of black smoke could be seen over Cambuslang on Sunday night after a tyre fire.
The blaze happened on Westburn Road shortly after 6pm.
It is believed no-one was hurt in the fire and Scottish Fire and Rescue were able to bring it under control. One person who spotted the smoke was Derec Thompson, who was driving on Hamilton Road at the time.
He said:“I was driving back from the gym in Blantyre and noticed a tower of thick black smoke.
“It was hard to tell where it was coming from, but as I got closer to Cambuslang I realised it was coming from somewhere nearWestburn.
“I stopped at Aldi on Hamilton Road and as I took a picture of the smoke, two ambulances came zooming past with sirens on.
“Five minutes later I came out of the shop and the smoke was gone - the fire brigade clearly got it under control very quickly.”
A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said two appliances had been used to bring the fire under control.
They added:“We received a report of a fire at Westburn Road at 6.19pm. Tyres were set alight which caused the fire.”
