Vital road set to re-open
Cambuslang Road is set to fully open to vehicles next week.
The road has been closed at the railway bridge since February while vital work was carried out.
The closure initially caused traffic chaos across Rutherglen and Cambuslang, but the situation has eased slightly in recent weeks.
A spokesman for Network Rail confirmed to the Reformer there had been no delays to the project and the road was set to re-open as scheduled on Friday, May 26.
Work on the bridge, which is near the M74 exit, has included strengthening the main girders and concrete bridge deck, blast cleaning and repairing the metalwork, applying corrosion protection to steelwork, painting the entire bridge, repairing masonry and clearing vegetation.
Network Rail said to deliver the work safely, the road needed to close to vehicles as it is too narrow to allow even single lane of traffic. Pedestrian access is still permitted.
