Karate club seeks new mem­bers

Ya­makai Karate Club are look­ing to en­rol new mem­bers.

The group, who meet twice weekly in Stonelaw High School’s sport cen­tre in Ruther­glen, in­cor­po­rate shotokan karate with com­pe­ti­tion sport karate. The club have two grad­ings per year and are af­fil­i­ated to the Scot­tish karate gov­ern­ing body.

Coach Jim Ross is also cur­rently part of the Scot­land National Ku­mite coach­ing team.

Be­gin­ners are ac­cepted from age five and above and classes take place on Tues­day evenings from 6-8pm with be­gin­ners un­der 10 stay­ing for one hour to be­gin with.

Ya­makai also hold a class on Friday evenings from 5- 6.15pm.

Be­gin­ners need only track­suit trousers and a t-shirt to get started, with all ses­sions con­ducted on a jig­saw mat­ted area. Any­one wish­ing fur­ther in­for­ma­tion about the club can con­tact Jim on 01698 421790.

Ya­makai Karate are known for claim­ing success at com­pe­ti­tions wher­ever they go.

Last sum­mer they se­cured 24 medals in­clud­ing eight golds at var­i­ous events.
