Kenny is axed for England crunch
Cambuslang man Kenny McLean has suffered a new blow after he was cut from the Scotland squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifier with England.
The Aberdeen midfielder was still getting over his Scottish Cup final heartbreak when he was given the news by national team boss Gordon Strachan.
Kenny, a former Cathkin High School pupil, was one of The Dons’ star men in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Celtic who scored a lastminute goal to win at Hampden Park.
Kenny has been axed from the provisional Scotland squad along with Hearts’ keeper Jack Hamilton, John McGinn of Hibs, Sheffield Wednesday’s Steven Fletcher and Brighton’s Jamie Murphy.
The 25-year-old has been one of the Premiership’s top performers this season and his call-up to the original squad was his first in more than a year.
Kenny told the Reformer last week he was excited to be involved in such a big game for his country. He said:“I’ve had a great season with Aberdeen and I’ve worked hard to play my way into contention.”
