Rutherglen Reformer - - General Election -

It’s been an honour to serve as Member of Parliament for Rutherglen and Hamilton West.

I want to be re-elected to continue to be a strong voice for communities right across the constituency.

This General Election is fundamental to the kind of country we want to be.

We simply cannot allow the Tories to inflict deeper cuts and further austerity on Scotland and, with Labour in complete disarray, only the SNP are offering any real opposition to theTories.

We are presenting an alternative to austerity that will release almost £120 billion for public spending over the next parliament.

We want to see additional NHS spending across the UK that would, by 2021/22, increase the NHS Scotland budget by up to an extra £1 billion.

We’ll support an increase to the minimum wage to the level of the real living wage: over £10 per hour by the end of the parliament.

We’ll lift the freeze on benefits and abolish the two-child cap and the rape clause.

We will also protect the triple lock on pensions, protect the winter fuel allowance and support fair pensions for women.

We continue to support a UK-wide increase in the higher rate of taxation from 45p to 50p.

And, crucially, we’ll continue to support Scotland’s place in the single market and demand for the Scottish Government a place at the table in Brexit negotiations.

Please place your trust in me again on June 8 and together we can stand up to the Tories.
