Char­ity ball helps boost funds for Malawi kids

A Ruther­glen char­ity have helped raise funds for young­sters in Malawi thanks to a char­ity ball.

Class­rooms For Malawi raised a fan­tas­tic £ £22,716 by hold­ing the event at the Hil­ton Ho­tel in Glas­gow.

The night at­tracted over 400 peo­ple and some ex­cit­ing raf­fle and auc­tion prizes were bagged by sev­eral lucky guests.

These in­cluded a week­end’s stay at the Hil­ton Am­s­ter­dam, fa­mous for John Len­non and Yoko Ono’s 1969 ‘bed-in for peace, a brand new Celtic top signed by the cur­rent team and even a bot­tle of Malawi gin.

The char­ity’s sup­port of­fi­cer Gemma Love said: “En­ter­tain­ment by local wed­ding and events band the Up­beats was en­joyed by all with the band putting on a great ceilidh set.

“The un­be­liev­able gen­eros­ity of guests will al­low the char­ity to con­tinue the amaz­ing work they do across Malawi!
