Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang vot­ers were poised to re­turn a Labour MP in the gen­eral elec­tion, after a Re­former poll showed the party firmly in the lead.

A top health board of­fi­cial pledged that Ruther­glen’s new £11 mil­lion hos­pi­tal was set to go ahead, al­though doubts still re­mained over the des­ig­na­tion of the much-de­layed hos­pi­tal.

Po­lice were in­ves­ti­gat­ing a ma­li­cious blaze which de­stroyed £20,000 worth of whisky bot­tles at a bond in Duchess Road, Ruther­glen.

A local head­teacher warmly praised a schools soccer tour­na­ment for hav­ing an anti-drugs mes­sage.

The year’s Lan­de­mer Day cel­e­bra­tions took place and proved a hit, be­ing blessed by sunny weather.
