Glencairn Under-19s were left to regret a mad three-minute spell which saw them go from two goals up to a goal behind in the SYFA West Region Cup final against St Cadoc’s.
The young Glens, who were wrapping up their first ever season, struck to take the lead just before the half-time whistle through Mitchell MacDonald, who pounced on a defensive error to lob the ball over the goalkeeper and then head it into an unguarded net.
In the 59th minute Glencairn doubled their lead with a quite stunning strike from Mark Taylor, whose 25-yard shot sailed into the top corner.
It seemed at this stage that the silverware was set to head to Rutherglen, but five minutes later the game turned completely on its head.
The 64th minute saw St Cadoc’s pull a goal back, and then another, when keeper Farrell came to claim the ball but a St Cadoc’s striker got to it first.
The disastrous few minutes continued as United were awarded a penalty in the 66th minute and converted it before adding another goal with 15 minutes to secure the trophy.
