She said:“We are delighted that we are able to keep Billy Hunter’s name alive by working with Cathkin High Schoo to provide this memorial award.

“We were joined by Billy’s cousin Dick Geater, who presented the award.

“Billy had a tremendous thirst for knowledge.

“There isn’t a more fitting tribute to him than recognising young people who have the same determination and drive that he had for learning at the same time overcoming anything that life throws at them.

“We are also delighted that this award to such a worthy recipient in Iain Gordon. After the ceremony we met with Iain and his very supportive family.

“Iain is a polite and mature young man and we can see how determined he is to succeed in life and, with his family at his side, I’m sure he will. Congratulations Iain!”
