Spi­ders mourn Ron­nie

Queen’s Park sup­port­ers have paid trib­ute to for­mer first team goal­keeper Ron­nie Cant who died ear­lier this week.

The ex-shot­stop­per for the Spi­ders had re­cently re­turned to the Ham­p­den Park club to help train the younger keep­ers.

Queen’s con­firmed Ron­nie’s pass­ing on June 9 and a state­ment on t he club web­site said: “It is with deep re­gret that the club has learned of the death of Ron­nie Cant.

“He will be sadly missed at Queen’s Park and our thoughts are with his fam­ily at this dif­fi­cult time.”

Fans quickly took to so­cial me­dia to ex­press their con­do­lences.

An­drew Bryan said: “Oh my God I’ve known Ron­nie since I was about seven when he played in goal for Mill­port. I only spoke to him about five weeks ago.”

Laura Jane McGuire said: “Ex­tremely sad news! Our fam­ily and Ryan send our con­do­lences to Ron­nie’s fam­ily at a dif­fi­cult time.”
