A Cambuslang school pupil represented the West of Scotland at the UK’s most prestigious youth cycling event.

Cathkin High’s Kirsty Hay spent four days competing with the best young riders in the country at the Scottish Cycling Youth Tour of Scotland in Perthshire.

The S2 student represented the Girls B team in her first outing in the event which consisted of four tough stages held on closed roads.

Kirsty has set herself up for a great season in 2017 and really enjoyed testing herself against British and European champions.

She said:“I had a great time and, although the cycling was tiring the experience was amazing.”

Her coach, Guto Williams , said: “Kirsty rode bravely and was able to hang on to the front group of riders for much of the race. She became progressively stronger as the race progressed and showed great skill in avoiding crashes during the particularly technical fourth stage.

“This involved narrow roads with rough surfaces and a steep 400m climb that had to be negotiated 10 times.”
