Rutherglen Reformer - - Gossip Girl - Court reporter

A warrant has been granted for the arrest of a Rutherglen man who has been accused of driving on the opposite side of a carriageway, mounting the pavement and striking a traffic sign - all while he was using his mobile phone.

David Connelly Jnr is alleged to have been driving on Langlea Road in Cambuslang on November 25, 2015.

The 35 year-old was charged with using his mobile while driving what is believed to be a Kia Carens on the opposing carriageway into the path of two women in vehicles who had to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

It is claimed Connelly , of Slenavon Avenue, mounted the pavement and hit a traffic sign while driving the vehicle without insurance and without the consent of the owner or other lawful authority.

The accused was due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on May 22.

However, a warrant has now been granted for his arrest.
