X14bus service axedafter oneyear

Rutherglen Reformer - - Intimations -

A bus service linking Cambuslang with Silverburn is to be scrapped less than a year after it started.

The X14 had provided residents with a direct link to the shopping centre on Saturdays and Sundays.

But Stagecoach, who ran the service, say not enough people are using it.

On Saturday, June 24, the service will cease between Hamilton and Silverburn.

Stagecoach said on their website this week: “Due to low customer demand the X17 will no longer serve Cambuslang and Hamilton.

“However, services between Ayr, Prestwick, Kilmarnock and Silverburn will be increased Monday to Saturday and later evening journeys will be added to the timetable.

“Two Monday-to-Friday journeys will also be added to the route so you can hit the shops midweek.”

The X14 had stopped at Broomfield Avenue, Croft Road, and the roundabout at Drumsagard.

It started running in the autumn of last year.

Stagecoach West Scotland managing director, Tom Bridge, had said: “We believe there is a demand for this type of service.”
