Kirkhill had their new 4G cell phone mast fitted which improved mobile usage in the local area before an eventful week took place at the club.
On Wednesday evening Kirkhill hosted the Chapman Trophy finals.
And on Friday the Rutherglen and District Bowling Association finals took place on Kirkhill’s east green while Glasgow North Eastern League games and the Kirkhill Friday night Harry Noble ties were on on the west green.
There were 10 rinks in use last Friday and as on Wednesday many spectators. Campbell McCulloch was the winning skip on Friday’s gents game.
On Saturday the Deaf Bowls Association had use of the green while the Kirkhill gents played a parish game at Overtoun.
Kirkhill gents won the tie by a reasonable margin of shots in the searing heat in hospitable, friendly conditions.
Sunday saw the Kirkhill annual memorial Sam Wilson trophy played for in superb weather conditions and a really friendly atmosphere. Some of late Sam’s family were spectating and playing.
The winning triples team turned out to be Campbell McCulloch (skip) playing with Alan Wilson, a member of Sam Wilson’s family, and Kirkhill’s newest member Jim McOuat. Jim might even have claimed a record for clinching a trophy within three days of membership after he substituted for a late withdrawn player.
Play started with a spider throw by all contestants which ended up with two O’Brien’s, John and Tom tossing a coin for the prize donated by bar convener Sam Maxwell.
After play Tom presented the Wilson family with flowers and thanked his fellow Kirkhill organisers and those who donated to the event.
Events at Kirkhill went so well all week because of the efforts of members and directors who pulled out all the stops to make it work.
Thanks go to Tom O’Brien on Sunday, the duty directors all week, the volunteers doing extra duty, the ladies supplying the North Eastern league players on Friday, the match and main committee, the bar convener and staff, and Ronnie Wilson and his team for ensuring the club hall was set up and the greens in great condition for play.
Kirkhill members were introduced to two new members this week, Jim McQuart and Peter Johnston.
