There were mixed fortunes for Rutherglen this week as bowler Barry Finlayson won the singles championship in the Rutherglen and District championship finals while Jim Mallin and Jim Lindsay lost in the pairs final.
The senior fours of Ian Stewart, William Wales, Alistair Riach and John McGowan had a convincing win against Giffnock in the Bowls Scotland district finals at Kingswood. They now go forward to represent the club and district in the finals at Northfield the week commencing July 24.
The Rutherglen ladies were also successful with Betty Duckett in the senior singles and Helen Stevenson, Mabel Robertson and May Hay in the triples.
The club Forthwright triples on Saturday, June 18 was won by William McIntosh, Stephen Clark and Alan Robinson who beat Gil Morgan, Donnie McInnes and Jimmy Simpson in a very closely fought final.
The gents balloted pairs, sponsored by Burnside Travel, was played on Saturday, June 24,with very strong, gusty winds making play very difficult. The winners were Ian Stewart and Jimmy Simpson with Stewart McIntosh and Alex Mclean finishing as runners-up.
The millennium triples team beat Burnside last Wednesday at Busby and now play at Mount Florida tonight, Wednesday.
The Monday evening aggregate game was won by Billy Hodge and Gil Morgan.
