Under-15 girls make club history
Rutherglen Girls reached the Scottish Cup quarter finals for the first time in the club’s five-year history.
The under-15 squad are the first team to reach the last eight through all age groups after a resounding 7-1 victory over Stenhousemuir Girls.
Cara McLeish’s hat-trick, an Emma Kiely double and efforts from Lucy Mullen and Morgan Marshall secured a comfortable win in the end for the Rutherglen side.
Club coach Brian O’Neill was delighted for his team. He said: “We had a sticky patch in the first 10 minutes in the first half but we were actually a goal up at that time and I don’t know how.
“But after that we settled and got the ball down and played some nice football.
“In the middle of the second half we started to take control of the game and dominated it from then on in.
“It is a big day for us because we have never been in the quarterfinals of this competition at any age level.”
