Pa­rades pass peace­fully

Sev­eral Orange Or­der marches which took place this week in Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang passed with­out in­ci­dent, po­lice say.

Bands led pro­ces­sions of peo­ple from premises on Elm Drive, Christie Place, Gra­ham Av­enue, Drum­mond Av­enue and Grey­stone Gar­dens on July 1.

Most marches took place be­tween 8.15am and 10am, be­fore the Grand Orange Or­der pa­rade left from Glas­gow’s Ge­orge Square at 10.30am.

A fur­ther two bands held their marches the pre­vi­ous evening, leav­ing from Cath­cart Place and Somervell Street.

Po­lice say no ar­rests were made in Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang as part of the fes­tiv­i­ties.

Eight peo­ple were ar­rested for mi­nor dis­or­der and al­co­hol re­lated of­fences dur­ing the Glas­gow City Cen­tre event.

It saw 63 bands and 4,000 par­tic­i­pants march from Ge­orge Square to Glas­gow Green.
